Additional Information about Program

The intervention endoscopy fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center typically trains 2 advanced fellows per year, splitting the ERCP and EUS services. In the past, this has included a dedicated 4th year fellow and 9-month advanced trainee from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center or UMMS. We have 4 ERCP and 4 EUS faculty that perform roughly 800 and 600 procedures, respectively. The advanced procedure volume at the attached Baltimore VA Medical center is an additional 50 ERCP and 40 EUS per year. In addition, training is available in advanced polypectomy, enteral stenting, single balloon enteroscopy, ESD, suturing and ablative techniques for Barrett’s.

In order to help with compensation, we have the advanced fellow staff a 3/4 day screening colonoscopy session once per week. In addition, duties will include 2 blocks (2 weeks each) of general GI service consult attending and 2 to 4 weeks of general GI night call. Clinical research is encouraged with a DDW presentation expected. A faculty appointment of Instructor in Medicine is given at the University of Maryland School of Medicine with full faculty benefits.
