The Department of Gastroenterology at Baystate Medical Center is seeking one motivated individual for training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy. The program is rapidly growing with the recent addition of two new faculty members. Currently the program performs well over 500 ERCPs along with over 500 EUS procedures annually. This volume is expected to grow as the program continues to expand its access to all patients within the area. The program also performs procedures including endoscopic mucosal resections, endoluminal stenting, complex ERCPs (including rendezvous ERCPs with EUS guidance), interventional EUS, radiofrequency ablation, and small bowel enteroscopy. Third space procedures include endoscopic submucosal dissection, submucosal tunneling endoscopic resections, endoscopic full thickness resection, and various types of POEM procedures (esophageal, Zenker’s, and gastric). Endo-bariatrics is a rapidly growing subspecialty of advanced endoscopy and procedures that have been performed at Baystate include transoral outlet reduction for prior Roux-en-Y bypass patients (TORe) and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG). Currently the team at Baystate is working towards establishing the first transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) program in Western MA. The fellow will spend the majority of their time in advanced endoscopic procedures and will be expected to complete training with over 1000 procedures.
This is a one-year training program for fellows who have graduated from an ACGME accredited Gastroenterology fellowship. The fellow must be board certified or board eligible. In addition to procedural training, the fellow will be expected to participate in scholarly activity including research and conference. The fellow will be involved in weekly conference shared with general GI fellows and weekly GI dedicated tumor board.
The faculty members are all dedicated to teaching the next generation of advanced endoscopists. There will be extensive one on one time with attendings during procedures. The fellow’s progress will be closely monitored in order to achieve competency in all aspects of training by the time of graduation.
