Additional Information about Program

The Creighton University at Omaha Advanced Endoscopy training program is a new, one-fellow-per-year program beginning in July 2024. In addition to our active general Gastroenterology fellowship program, which recruits two fellows each year, we are now offering specialized training in advanced endoscopy procedures. Our gastroenterology division has two experienced faculty members who perform various complex advanced endoscopy procedures in a supportive and welcoming environment. Creighton University Medical Center is a referral center for patients from across the region who require advanced endoscopy procedures. We have a sufficient volume of procedures to provide comprehensive training for one advanced endoscopy fellow per year.

Our program offers the opportunity to learn a wide range of complex interventions through ERCP and EUS procedures, including cholangiopancreaticosopy guided interventions, cystenterostomy, pancreatic necrosectomy, EDGE procedure, EUS guided treatment for gastric variceal bleed, gallbladder drainage, and more. Fellows will also gain proficiency in endoluminal stenting, resection of large polyps in the upper and lower GI tract, ablation of Barrett's esophagus, feeding tube placement, endoscopic suturing, perforation closure, leak closure, and fistula closure. Additionally, we offer training in third-space endoscopy, with exposure to ESD.

Fellows will have a half-day pancreas-focused clinic and a half-day of research time each week during their training. During their year-long fellowship, they will also participate in general gastroenterology duties for eight weeks. Interested candidates will be able to attend and learn from various advanced endoscopy courses.

By the end of the fellowship, our graduates will be confident in independently practicing clinical pancreatology and advanced endoscopy procedures.
