Additional Information about Program
The Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship, led by Director Christopher C. Thompson, M.D., M.H.E.S., is designed for physicians who are looking for a comprehensive therapeutic endoscopy training program and for those who are interested in pursuing an academic medical career.
Traditional training in endoscopy takes place during a three-year fellowship in gastroenterology, providing a good foundation for upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy skills. However, the recent introduction of a large number of advanced endoscopic techniques has heightened the need for specialized fellowships dedicated to advanced endoscopy.
Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship trainees focus on developing advanced endoscopic skills and accumulating data for clinical trials. To help achieve these goals, fellows are given access to state-of-the-art facilities and technology and our experienced faculty.
Curriculum
Fellows will be exposed to a broad training regimen, including ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, luminal stenting, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), deep enteroscopy techniques (single and double-balloon), ablation of Barrett’s esophagus, endoscopic management of bariatric surgery complications, and endoscopic suturing. Each fellow will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with every member of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital advanced endoscopy faculty.
In addition to developing endoscopic skills, fellows will be encouraged to explore research interests – interacting with faculty and other fellows in clinical trial planning and database development.
